Severe Mercy is a body of work built around ideas of love, memory, time, hurt and metaphysical alchemy.

Its foundations lie within the ideas, writing and works of people who in part, help the world understand how artistic compulsion, phenomenology, time and space all stem from subconscious or conscious subjective perception instead of an objective reality. The work as a whole moves from the small to the large in terms of scale, expansions and contractions of how the images can be found within space, intentionally placed as a means to describe this.

The exhibition includes works on aluminium, screen prints, framed silver gelatine photographs, a large scale kinetic installation and a series of abstract moving images. Severe Mercy conquers a number of visual experiences all asking the same questions and offering different answers in the form of duration, ambiguity and response.

With a number of STUDIO IRON’s cosigned design pieces, this body of work extends to a realm where two worlds coincide. Where functional pieces can embody conceptual enquiry, both aesthetically and philosophically. In order to create the conversation between the sculptural and functional presence amongst the body of work, STUDIO IRON has carefully curated a select number of design pieces from their roster to sit throughout the show, demonstrating the gallery’s ability to curate common narrative across mediums and disciplines.
