Jesse Butterfield is a London-based designer and researcher exploring the relationships between material culture, place, and systems of production. Through hands-on making and material experimentation, his work embraces unpredictability as part of the creative process. His recent objects investigate sheet steel’s ability to behave like paper. Beginning with simple paper maquettes, the work translates their naïve forms into steel through laser cutting and welding, preserving the playful character of the original prototypes.

Celebrating the tension between utility and ornamentation the collection assembles furnishings that engage and subvert archetypes of domesticity, gendered objects and form. Questioning material historicity, the objects bring the two designer's process and references into an unlikely dialogue, here Spanish ‘puntillas´(a lace typically used for garment details) pillow elevated by steel volumes. Four white bronze charms are placed at each corner of the cushion as small narrative elements.
